The Stanford Solar Car Project races in the World Solar Challenge and, historically, in the American Solar Challenge, but there there are many other solar car races throughout the world.
The World Solar Challenge is the most prestigious and arguably the most challenging solar car race in the world. Every two years around 40 teams from around the globe come to race hand built cars 3000 km across the Australian Outback.
The route of the American Solar Challenge changes from year to year. This race draws many teams from North America and a handful of teams from the rest of the world. Teams tour 1,200 to 1,500 miles depending on the current year’s route.
