Recruitment
Basic Information
Who can join?
The Stanford Solar Car Project is a student-run organization open to all undergraduates and graduate students at Stanford University. We have students that come from all disciplines from history to biology to computer science. We are also looking for students majoring in Management Science & Engineering or highly interested in business. We have something for everyone so come visit us and see what interests you.
How do I join?
Joining the team is as simple as attending a meeting. We hold regular meetings every Saturday starting at noon and every Monday starting at 7:30PM at the solar car site on the edge of campus.
Do I need to take any classes or have prior experience before joining?
There is no prior experience necessary to join the team. While an engineering or business background will be helpful, the vast majority of knowledge you’ll need to apply for the project come from hands-on work and talking with existing members on the team. We also hold occasional tutorials to walk new members through certain aspects of designing and building a solar car.
How many hours do I have to put in a week for solar car?
We recognize that our members are also full-time students possibly with obligations to other jobs and organizations so we do not enforce a strict time requirement for remaining on the team. Although there are no minimum hour requirements for being on the team, we live by the maxim that you get out only as much as you put in. Additionally, working on the more advanced projects on the team requires a level of long-term commitment so that we can keep our design process on track.
