SSCP presents…

Over the past weekend we were incredibly excited to present Black Mamba, our 2019 car, to the public for the first time. Huge thanks to all of our sponsors for helping make this car happen – we couldn’t have done it without you! It was great seeing a few of the sponsors in person at our unveiling event, alongside several generations of SSCP alumni and a great crowd of team family and friends. The team was relieved to finally take a day off to set up for unveiling, reveal the car, and then relax a little in the midst of a heavy summer of fabrication, coding, debug and testing.

We know our decision to be so open with our progress photos this cycle means that our car was perhaps less of a surprise than it has been other years. That said, we’ve still been looking forward to showing off our (nearly) finished product after spending so much time with the bare carbon shell. Now it’s back to the shop for finishing touches before we get on to the real driving! The mechanical team is making last adjustments to the build of the car, working on the little details like latching and seams, as well as getting our wheel alignment and suspension tuning ready to go. EE/CS crew are well into full system debug using both the car-on-a-bench and the car-in-the-car, while the array team works out the last kinks in our topshell wiring and waterproofing.

We’ll be getting on the road starting next week for a fast-paced month of testing. First up is dynamic shakedown up at Thunderhill Raceway; then we’ll move to California’s central valley for some Outback-reminiscent camping trips and test driving through the farmlands around San Joaquin. Check back soon for some updates and action shots!
